I had resisted all copy-cats, saving my cronut-virginity for THIS, the ORIGINAL. I walked myself out of the bakery, my head low, curse words were muttered and then the tears started falling. It was the ultimate Food Pervert fail.
Last week, I had one hell of an LA cronut at Kettle Glazed Doughnuts in Hollywood. It was Valentine's Day and I deserved a special, delicious treat. This cronut was heart-shaped, filled with chocolate custard and sprinkled with strawberry sugar. Even though it was incredibly sweet, (God only knows how many spoonfuls of sugar it contained) it was one of the best pastries I have ever tasted. I greedily ate it in my car. It was gone in about 45 seconds...that would be my guess.
I didn't stop at the cronut. If I'm going to judge a doughnut shop I have to try at least one other thing! I also ordered the old-fashioned cake doughnut with blueberries, bacon and a maple glaze. There is no visual evidence because I took one bite and couldn't stop, not even for a photo. You can imagine those flavors, with that cake consistency...oooooh.
Overall Rating: *****
Kettle Glazed has no complaints from me. I would like to make a monthly visit and get special customer privileges...like free doughnuts for life, or maybe a doughnut named after me!
